North Central resident and semi-retired teacher Diane Gara-Weiner hosts the next meeting of the Alpha Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG), an international organization that promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.

Terri Alexon of the Arizona Corporation Commission will be speaking about “Tricks of the Trade: Outsmarting Investment Fraud,” 5 p.m. Thursday, April 9. Learn who fits the profile of a potential fraud target, how to identify the persuasion tactics fraudsters use, reduce risky behaviors by asking questions, and more. The meeting is open to DKG members and those interested in learning more about the organization.

Gara-Weiner, who lives near 12th Street and Missouri Avenue, joined DKG in 2008. “It was an opportunity for me to join with others in the teaching profession, to enhance and utilize skills I already had,” Gara-Weiner says. “The leadership skills I learned have had a broader effect on what I have been able to do within and outside the Delta Kappa Gamma organization.

“To me, the camaraderie is also an important feature of membership,” she adds. “It is a caring group of educators who not only care about each other but their community as well.” The local chapter performs different community service projects throughout the year.

Meetings take place each month at different members’ homes around the Valley. For more information or to RSVP for the April 9 meeting, call Diane Gara-Weiner at 602-266-1732. The address will be provided upon RVSP.
