Uptown Farmers Market is the first farmers market to partner with the Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP), to offer Vegetable Valet, an on-site preparation of handpicked, local vegetables and fruits while customers shop for all of their market favorites. This service is targeted toward busy moms, local chefs and foodies alike.

C-CAP will run a booth outside in the marketplace while two student chefs will be inside a certified kitchen ready to chop on-site. Customers can purchase veggies and fruits from any of the market’s produce farmers and bring those items to the C-CAP booth to be prepped into anything the customer chooses: stir-fry, salads, vegetable plates, apples slices or carrot sticks for kids’ lunches, and more. Vegetable Valet is available at Uptown Farmers Market’s Saturday Market only. Allow at least 15-20 minutes for the vegetables and fruit to be prepped; shoppers are advised to buy their produce first and bring it to the table, then peruse the rest of the vendors in the marketplace.

There is no charge for this service. C-CAP will operate with donations.

“Our student chefs need an outlet to hone their knife skills,” says Nicole DeKruyter, Culinary coordinator for C-CAP Arizona. “Providing this complimentary food preparation service for North Central families at Uptown Farmers Market gives our chefs that opportunity.”

The Uptown Farmers Market is located in the east parking lot of North Phoenix Baptist Church, 5757 N. Central Ave. The east lot is off Bethany Home Road. The market is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays (when the Vegetable Valet is available). It also operates from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays. For more information, visit http://uptownmarketaz.com.
