The Foundation for Senior Living (FSL) is partnering with Maricopa County Human Services Department to offer veterans assistance with modifying their home to provide greater accessibility through the Housing Opportunity for Service Disabled Veterans Program.

Funding is being provided by the Arizona Attorney General’s Office. Applicants need to submit an online application by Dec. 15.

“Our team will make the modifications to the veteran’s homes once the recipients are selected,” explained said Tom Egan, president and CEO of FSL. “The average investment in the home is currently $53,000, which is a great value to the veterans. We’re looking forward to making the improvements, so they can live more independently.”

The loan program funds home modifications that enhance accessibility which include but are not limited to widening doorways or hallways, lowering countertops, adding exterior ramps, installing grab bars or roll-in showers in bathrooms, etc. The modifications must be directly tied to service-connected disability.

Veterans who reside in Maricopa County are eligible to apply by visiting http://www.hsd.maricopa.gov/MCHIP.aspx. A complete list of rules can be found online as well. To learn more, call 602-506-5911.
