Enjoy a moderate to difficult hike led by a Phoenix Park Ranger during a “Wag Walkabout” set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 on the Shaw Butte Circumference Trail. Pre-registration is requested at https://apm.activecommunities.com/phoenix/Activity_Search. Type in the keyword “Wag.”

You and your physically fit dog will Summit Shaw Butte following the 100, Shaw Butte Connector, and 306 Trails. The hike length is approximately 4 miles, and will take 3-4 hours to complete.

Meet the park ranger at the North Mountain Visitor Center, 12950 N. 7th St., at 8:45 a.m. Dogs must be at least 5 months old and fully vaccinated. All dogs must be properly licensed, with tags. The free hike is limited to 10 hikers and 10 dogs (one dog per handler only). Children 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

For your dog, bring water, a water bowl, a leash (6-foot maximum), and waste bags. Dog participation is at the ranger’s discretion.
