Lifelong North Central resident Valerie Clarke recently was recognized with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award was established in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, to “honor the super-human work nurses do for patients and families every day.”

The mother of three has worked at HonorHealth John C. Lincoln Medical Center for 15 years, both in the emergency room and the ICU, two high-stress departments.

“Valerie is a compassionate and caring Trauma ICU nurse,” said Yvonne Graber, MSN, RN, CCRN, director of Intensive Care Unit I at the hospital. “Her love for life and for patients is seen through her positive attitude, passion for the job, and her nurturing touch. Valerie utilizes the true term of what ‘nursing’ means and her patients benefit from every interaction she has with them.”

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is part of The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation’s program to recognize the clinical skill and especially the compassion nurses provide to patients and families all year long. This is a global recognition and only 12 nurses are recognized each year (three per quarter) across the state. For more information, visit https://www.daisyfoundation.org/daisy-award.
