Since 1977, Mane Attraction Salon and its staff has been outfitting its clients with the latest looks out of its longtime home at the northwest corner of 32nd Street and Camelback Road. Husband-and-wife owners Kendall Ong and Beate Assmuth-Ong purchased the landmark salon in 1998.

The Ongs also have been servicing the needs of pets awaiting adoption through their philanthropic project called Beauty to the RESCUE, set for Sunday, March 17. It is the owners’ love of dogs that keeps them returning each year to offer this sudsy, stylish fundraiser, now in its 19th year.

Kendall and Beate, who met while both working for Vidal Sassoon, have run Mane Attraction for nearly two decades, and combined, they have more than 50 years of international experience. They have also traveled the world teaching other hair stylists and designing new looks for clients.

The couple also devotes their efforts to improving the community, notably with the Beauty to the RESCUE fundraiser for PACC911, which brings together the many animal welfare organizations throughout Arizona, providing four key resources: large outdoor adoption events, ongoing fundraising, educational outreach, and medical assistance to soften the high-cost veterinary care.

This year’s Beauty to the RESCUE is set for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and for a minimum donation ($30 for haircuts, $20 for Blow Dry Style, $20 for Makeup Touch Ups and $10 for Deep Conditioning Masque), anyone can partake in a day of personal pampering. Enjoy music as you browse a variety of boutique vendor booths, enter a raffle for gift baskets and bid on silent auction items—all while supporting your favorite furry friends. Plus, there will be dogs at the event looking for their forever homes.

“We have a special place in our hearts for the pets that PACC911 helps,” says Beate. “What they are doing to help the many animal welfare organizations in Arizona is something that we are proud to be part of.”
