The bakery at 3830 E. Indian School Road has launched a Baking Apprenticeship, developed in partnership with Arizona’s Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP). This two-year program will provide graduating high school students the chance to expand their culinary skills in a working bakery, offering aspiring chefs hands-on experience needed for successful baking careers.

Headed by Essence Bakery Café’s chef/owner Eugenia Theodosopoulos (aka Chef Theo), the advanced culinary training will cover breads, pastries, laminated doughs and cookies. Apprentices will also gain vital business skills including setting up attractive product displays, sourcing and handling fresh produce from area suppliers, as well as how to manage a restaurant. Graduates of the program will receive a certificate from the Arizona Apprenticeship Office that is recognized around the world.
