It’s a tennis player’s worst nightmare: tennis elbow.

Also known as tendonitis or a painful Achilles tendinopathy, it is a strain or injury to the tendons that are outside of the elbow, according to Dr. Azmi Nasser, medical director of Arizona Pain Treatment Centers.

Nasser said typically he will recommend some activity adjustment for patients, including decreasing the amount of activity that might be causing the injury. Patients also can do physical therapy and wear a tennis elbow strap. If those treatments don’t help, non-steroidal injections or a ultra-minimally-invasive surgical repair  can be performed.
