Barbara Wood, the director of development for the community at 1610 W. Glendale Ave., was nominated for a MatrixCare Hero honor, which honors post-acute workers who exceed expectations during the COVID-19 crisis. Wood was recognized for the creative ways in which she has helped her patients connect with others during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Beatitudes Campus combines senior living, healthcare and a holistic philosophy to wellness. While social distancing guidelines are in place at care centers and assisted living facilities, Wood has headed communications with Beatitudes residents. She has created online resources to help those with internet access read the latest COVID-19 information and she distributes paper copies to those without internet access. The weekly updates are sent via text and email and through the paper copies. Wood also coordinates weekly meal menus that are posted online for residents whose family members usually help them pick their meals.

Wood has worked with Beatitudes Campus CEO Michelle Just to facilitate daily video updates to answer residents’ questions and talk about plans for reopening. The videos also provide recognition to Wood’s colleagues who have gone above and beyond during these challenging times.

MatrixCare Heroes are employees at long-term care facilities and home-based care organizations who have gone beyond the call of duty to help keep their residents safe, informed, healthy and protected during the pandemic.
