Metrocenter Mall is no longer in business, another victim of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The mall’s general manager Kim Ramirez in a letter said “with a heavy heart” that after 47 years of being in operation the mall made the difficult decision to close at the end of business on June 30. Despite the mall’s best attempts to bring back value to the mall, finish maintenance work and boost foot traffic, the decrease in occupancy levels because of COVID-19 made it impossible to keep the large property going, the letter said.

Metrocenter Mall, located at 9617 N. Metro Parkway West, opened in 1973 and has been a popular hangout for people to walk around on the weekends, skate in the ice-skating rink and later a skate park, as well as watch movies in the theater, according to Ramirez’s letter.
