Midtown Music can help budding musicians tap into their creative sides and gain performance skills.

The music studio at the corner of 8th and Clarendon avenues offers instruction for students of all ages and skill levels, though most of them are young beginners, owner Timothy OBrien said. He teaches classes in guitar/bass/ukulele, piano/keyboard and drum set/percussion one-on-one in person or online from his home studio.

Students must wear masks for in-person lessons. There are no group classes at the moment because of the COVID-19 pandemic but they will be offered again in the future when possible. Students can perform in monthly virtual recitals.

Students learn to read music, understand music theory and play by ear and rock to their favorite songs alone or with other musicians. OBrien started Midtown Music in 2018 but has taught professionally for almost two decades at a school or store.

Midtown Music offers one-on-one online or in-person lessons for $135 a month, with a 30-minute class once every week, this month. Two siblings enrolled in classes receive a discount, paying $225 a month for classes.

To register for classes, visit midtownmusicphx.com or call or text OBrien at 219-793-DRUM (3786).
