Something very tall is being built on West Catalina Drive at Park Central, a sign of growth coming to the area.

A 551,750-square-foot precast parking structure called Catalina Parking Garage is being built on the south side of Park Central in order to accommodate the increasing use of the property as a central Phoenix office/higher education/retail destination. The garage, being developed by The Plaza Companies in partnership with the city of Phoenix, celebrated its “topping out” at an event last month. The Catalina garage is 10-plus stories high and contains 2,005 spaces.

A new hotel is being built on the Park Central property and is expected to open in August 2022. WCUI School of Medical Imaging and Nursing (WCUI) is planning to take occupancy on the property in July. A new apartment building also is expected to open on the site.

The Park Central site currently has several restaurants and offices. The new parking structure will be a main focus for transportation for visitors and people who work in Park Central. The erecting company, structural engineers and contractors worked closely together on various scenarios to ensure the garage will be stable and successful at every stage of the building process.
