A team at Chapman BMW on Camelback is showing its soft spot for furry friends.

Bob Cola, the dealership’s general manager, decided to foster an 8-year-old homeless dog rescued from a rural area of Arizona, but he did not realize at the time he would help save more than 400 other lives in the process.

Cola was matched with his foster dog, who he called Beemer, through the Arizona Animal Welfare League’s foster program. It was his first time working with a shelter as previously he had always gone to a commercial breeder for his four-legged family members.

Beemer was special, though, and he and Cola quickly became inseparable. Cola would bring Beemer to the office, where she would sit in meetings and walk the showroom floor and ride shotgun on his commute to and from his home. While caring for her, Cola decided to sponsor the adoption of one homeless animal at AAWL for every car his team sold from Nov. 15 through Dec. 31 of that year. His team sold more than 400 cars, allowing them to sponsor the adoptions of homeless animals for at least the next two months at the no-kill animal shelter.

And Cola adopted Beemer.

Chapman BMW on Camelback gave AAWL a donation of $81,540 to sponsor adoption fees. The money donated to AAWL by this foster dad and his team will go toward helping more than 400 animals find their forever homes with a waived adoption fee as part of the “Beemer’s Buddies” special happening at the shelter.
