Children and teens can lace up their sneakers and hit the track again as So Swift Athletics is resuming this month.

This USATF-affiliated Youth Track & Field Club, new to North Central, trains and mentors athletes who are ages 5 to 18. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the past season to be canceled right when the athletes were getting on track in the spring. But the club is back in action and wants to add more athletes for preconditioning this month.

So Swift Athletics’ mission is to offer a fun, welcoming environment for athletes to engage in positive, meaningful experiences while learning the fundamentals of track and field. The founder of the club, coach Tawnie Martin is a youth track and field coach committed to making a positive impact on children and teens. A goal-oriented coach with a record of successfully motivating and mentoring student-athletes to meet and exceed their goals, she is a level USATF coach, specializing in mid/long-distance and block starts. Martin previously worked as the sprint coach at Centennial High School from 2018-19 and now she is the sprint coach at Sunnyslope High School.

Pre-season conditioning will start on Monday, Nov. 2. There will be practices Mondays, Wednesdays and some Saturdays. Kids of all skill levels can join. There is a monthly fee, as well as a membership in the USATF. The club’s regular season is January through May with the USATF Arizona Junior Olympics State Qualifying meet being held in June and the Junior Olympics Regionals and Nationals in July.
