Brenda’s Inferno, formerly known as The Armadillo Grill, spiced up its menu after being featured on the TV show “Bar Rescue” in September, after host Jon Taffer and his crew visited for several days in March to try to boost operations and enhance the menu. That is when the name was changed to Brenda’s Inferno, after the owner Brenda Lambrecht, who opened the restaurant 23 years ago.

The menu was pared down from almost 70 to five dishes. Since then the restaurant has brought back several of its well-loved items including fried pickles, the Philly cheese steak and buffalo chicken sandwiches. As it always has, the restaurant serves food that is all made from scratch.

Dishes added as a result of the filming include a spicy chicken sandwich, house burger, Southwest steak sandwich, shrimp poppers and “Fired Up Sliders.”

Lambrecht said Taffer made the restaurant “more Southwestern,” adding fresh peppers and other spicy touches to the menu. Customers can still watch sports on the 44 high-definition TVs and engage in off-track betting. The eatery’s interior also was repainted with warmer colors. Happy hour specials are still offered, from 3 to 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to midnight Tuesdays through Saturdays and all day Sundays and Mondays.

“It was an experience,” Lambrecht said of being on “Bar Rescue.” “They’ve done a beautiful job on the restaurant.”

Brenda’s Inferno, located at 1904 E. Camelback Road, is open from 11 a.m. to midnight Mondays through Saturdays and 10 a.m. to midnight Sundays. To learn more, visit brendasinferno.com. For information about “Bar Rescue,” visit barrescueupdates.com.
