The Phoenix Theatre Company is putting a new spin on the tale of Cinderella in a musical coming to the stage this month and in July.

“Daddy Long Legs” is coming to the stage June 23-27 and 30, then July 1-3, 6-11 and 14-18 in the Hormel Theatre at 1825 N. Central Ave. This heartwarming story, which is an award-winning off-Broadway hit musical, is about a witty, young woman and her mysterious benefactor. The tale follows Jerusha Abbott, who grew up in an orphanage but then heads to college, per her benefactor’s request for her to become a writer. Her mysterious benefactor requires that she write him every month, even though he will not respond to her letters. The letters she writes reveal a moving portrait of her mind and spirit developing as she becomes an independent, intelligent woman, who is destined to discover love where she least expects it.

Shows will be at 3 and 8 p.m. depending on the date. Audience members are required to wear face masks at all times during their visit to the theater, regardless of whether they have received a COVID-19 vaccine. They can only remove their masks while eating and drinking. All visitors will be required to have their temperature checked when they arrive at the theater. Those with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will not be allowed to enter the space and their tickets will be refunded.
