A new survey reveals the process of purchasing or selling a home is intimidating to nearly half of Americans.

So says Homie, a real estate company changing how homes are bought and sold. The Harris Poll conducted the survey of 2,073 people ages 18 and older in the United States online on behalf of Homie from Feb. 16-18.

This survey shows the COVID-19 pandemic has increased financial stress for people when buying a home. It revealed that 61-percent of those answering the survey agreed that the pandemic has put more financial stress on the home-buying process. Due to the pandemic, nearly half (46 percent) of Americans surveyed said they have reevaluated what they are seeking in a home. The financial stress is even greater among residents ages 35 to 44 years old, as seven out of 10 of them reported that concern.

This survey also showed that 49-percent of Americans are intimidated by the procedure of buying or selling a home, with 44 percent saying they would not know where to start the process. Among Americans ages 18 to 44, 60 percent reported the home-buying activity intimidated them and 56 percent did not know where to start.

Homie reported the survey indicated 70 percent of Americans who have ever purchased or sold a home said they experienced some challenge during their last transaction. Also, 72 percent of Americans ages 35 to 44 said they wish there was an easier way to locate a real estate agent. One in four Americans ages 18 to 34 who had bought a home felt the pressure from friends and family members to work with a specific real estate agent during their last transaction.

Homie CEO Johnny Hanna said he and his team work with people daily that find the process of buying and selling a home “overly complicated and challenging” and are unsure of where to start. Hanna added that owning a home should be “easy, affordable and accessible for all.”

Using modern technology and dedicated local agents, Homie saves clients thousands of dollars. Homie does not charge clients a percentage-based commission when selling their home but rather provides a low, flat fee, regardless of the home’s sale price, to market and sell a home.
