AIR Aerial Fitness, a North Central fitness studio offering a unique type of exercise, recently opened at 2824 E. Indian School Road in the Sprouts Farmers Market shopping center.

It offers four different class formats, including an AIR Foundation all-level cornerstone class, where students learn aerial exercises on hammocks. It emphasizes basic alignment, foundation and specific muscle actions. AIR Core is an all-level, 30-minute core blast that uses the aerial hammocks and focuses on upper and lower abdominal, oblique and lower back muscles. AIR Flow is for all levels and it is an aerial yoga class for a deep stretch and core strengthening at a slower pace. A 50-minute intense AIR intermediate-level class offers aerial fitness training that blends elements of conditioning, Pilates, ballet and HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) on aerial hammocks.

The cost is $30 for a drop-in class or $160 per month for unlimited classes. There are other discounts and promotions, as well as other class package offerings.

Owner Steph Doheny said all hammocks in every class are at least 6 feet apart to ensure students are socially distancing. Masks must be worn at all times while inside the studio. All high-touch surfaces are disinfected before and after every class and throughout the day when needed. There is a weight limit of 250 pounds per student for safety.
