Take a short hike and learn about plants and animals during a city of Phoenix event on Sunday, Dec. 12.

Learn about flora and fauna endemic to the Phoenix Mountains Preserves of the Sonoran Desert during this gathering from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Ocotillo Ramada Area of the Piestewa Peak Trailhead, located at 2701 E. Squaw Peak Drive. There also will be a short discussion about the history of mining in the same area.

This event is for people at least 16 years old. Participants should bring water and snacks, as well as wear appropriate clothes and shoes for outdoor activities. It costs $5 per person. The city offers many other outdoor events through its PHX Plays program. To learn more, visit www.phoenix.gov/parks/classes-and-programs.
