The Phoenix City Council recently approved a plan for the tiered reopening of community centers, to bring back the process of special park permits and special activity requests for private events with more than 50 people to gather on park property. It also approved a plan to resume high school swim and dive teams’ rentals of select pools.

The city’s community and recreation centers have been shut down since March of last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sunnyslope Community Center, which is at 802 E. Vogel Ave., as well as 10 other city community centers, will reopen effective June 7 for annual summer youth camps and limited indoor recreation classes for registration only. There will not be any drop-in use of these centers allowed.

The community centers will be run at 50 percent capacity and everyone who visits them will be required to wear a mask or face covering.

In-person summer youth camps for children ages 6 to 12 will be offered at the eleven community centers starting the week of June 7. View and register for camps and other indoor recreation classes at https://apm.activecommunities.com/phoenix/Home.
