Valley parents looking for a way to help improve their child’s reading skills have the opportunity to do just that, while also making a difference in the lives of homeless pets at the same time.
Local youth are invited to enroll in the Arizona Humane Society’s (AHS) educational and fulfilling Reading Fur Fun program, running through November. Reading Fur Fun is an initiative that gives children ages five to 12 an opportunity to improve their reading skills while enriching the lives of shelter dogs in AHS’s care.
Participants will provide dogs with valuable socialization and stimulation as they read aloud their favorite book. In exchange, the sweet dogs will provide children with an unforgettable reading experience and perhaps a few kisses and tail wags.
The Reading Fur Fun program is held at the Rob & Melani Walton Papago Park Campus, located at 5501 E. Van Buren St. The cost to participate is $15 for one child and one adult. To sign up, visit www.azhumane.org/read-to-pets-with-reading-fur-fun. Contact the campus at 602-997-7585.
