Families are invited to join Changing Hands and the Phoenix Public Library Tuesday, Dec. 10, as they welcome picture book author/illustrator Jan Brett with her new picture book, “Alice in a Winter Wonderland.”
The book is a striking rendition of “Alice in Wonderland,” transported to a shimmering Alaskan tundra, in Brett’s rich signature style.

Families can hear from the author and pick up a copy of Jan Brett’s newest book, “Alice in a Winter Wonderland,” at a Dec. 10 event hosted at Burton Barr library (submitted photo).
When Alice spies a white rabbit checking his pocket watch before hippity-hopping down a crevasse in an Alaskan glacier, she knows she must follow him. And so, she pops down the rabbit hole, into a world of absurd personalities, topsy-turvy action, and laugh-out-loud silliness. Favorite characters like Cheshire Cat and the Duchess and King and Queen come to life as vibrant animals native to Alaska making this classic tale shine through a fresh lens, certain to appeal to readers of all ages.
Held at Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 N. Central Ave., the event will be a fun, free, family holiday event. The author will do a 20-minute drawing illustration and presentation. There will be a signing following the event, with book purchase from Changing Hands needed to enter. Also, Brett’s tour bus will be parked out front of Burton Barr in the parking lot one hour before the event and wrapped in artwork from “Alice in a Winter Wonderland,” making it the perfect family photo-op. In addition, Hedgie, the author’s favorite friend from “The Mitten and The Hat,” will also be visiting and will be happy to take photos with all of Brett’s readers.
Entry is general admission and free with RSVP. Since space is limited, guests are asked to register for the event so that the organizers know how many people to expect. Customers must have purchased a copy of “Alice in a Winter Wonderland” (one per family) to join the signing line. The first 100 families in line will receive a free signed Jan Brett poster.
