Each month, the Valley’s older residents can take advantage of a variety of classes, activities and social outings at one of the city of Phoenix’s 15 senior centers. In North Central Phoenix, seniors can access activities at either the Sunnyslope or Devonshire locations.

Members at the Sunnyslope Senior Center, located at 802 E. Vogel Ave., will take two special trips in December: Wednesday, Dec. 4, to visit Herberger Theater Center, and Thursday, Dec. 12, to visit Black Theatre Troupe. Other events include a PHXART docent talk, Dec. 5, a holiday party, Dec. 18, and show and tell and hot chocolate and movie fun with kids, Dec. 26. Contact the center at 602-262-7572.

Members at the Devonshire Senior Center, located at 2802 E. Devonshire Ave., will explore the Tempe Festival of the Arts, Dec. 6, enjoy fishing and lunch at Desert West Park, Dec. 12, take a trip to Little Miss BBQ for lunch, Dec. 17, and ring in the New Year with an apple cider toast, Dec. 31. Contact the center at 602-262-7807.

In addition, beginning in January 2025, the Human Services Department’s Memory Café program will expand to serve all 15 center locations. Memory Cafés provide a safe and supportive place where individuals with memory loss and their caregivers can connect. It is an environment for learning, support, and social engagement. It’s a place to talk with others who understand what you are going through, forget about limitations, focus on strengths, enjoy each other’s company, and explore something new.
