David S. Pederson

In mid-June, North Central resident David S. Pederson will release his newest mystery novel, “A Marvelous Murder.”

After a career in retail and property management, Pederson began to pursue his love of writing – although, he will concede that he’s been writing since high school. From an early age he found he loved the movies and music from earlier eras, mostly the 1930s through the 1950s. Inspired by black and white film noir movies and many of the great mystery authors such as Agatha Christie and Dashiell Hammett, he finally got his first historical mystery published in 2016. He followed this with several more historical mysteries set in the Midwest, as well as a trilogy set in post-World War II Phoenix. A two-time Lambda Literary Society Mystery Award finalist, Pederson has written 12 previous murder mystery novels.

“A Marvelous Murder” is set during the golden age of 1939 Hollywood. When film director Orland Orcott is found dead in his locked study, police rule it a suicide. However, movie star Victor Marvel believes otherwise and sets out to investigate. Was it suicide or murder? Suspects and grudges abound. With so many motives for murder, finding the killer won’t be easy. But no one else cares as long as Orland Orcott is dead.

Pederson will hold a book release event at the Phoenix Changing Hands Bookstore, 300 W. Camelback Road, on June 18 at 6:30 p.m. Watch the Changing Hands “Events” webpage (www.changinghands.com) for updates and ticketing information.
