When “Mean Girls: High School Version” opens Sept. 12 at Greasepaint Theatre, four talented teens from North Central Phoenix will be among the 30-plus cast members bringing the halls of North Shore High to life.
Based on the 2004 cult-classic film written by Tina Fey, this high school edition of the Broadway musical features sharp dialogue, over-the-top characters and high-energy musical numbers that make for a wildly entertaining trip through adolescence. Fan-favorite songs like “Stupid with Love,” “I’d Rather Be Me” and the explosive showstopper “World Burn” are all part of the Tony-nominated score that showcases both vocal chops and comedic timing.
Greasepaint’s creative team, including director Dale Nakagawa, music director Mary Ellen Loose, choreographer Olivia Feldman and stage manager Alaina Lish, has guided the teen cast through every chaotic hallway confrontation and cafeteria showdown.
At the center of it all is Cady Heron, a homeschooled teen who enters the unfamiliar world of public high school and quickly gets swept into the orbit of the Plastics – the most powerful and fashionable clique at North Shore High. What starts as an undercover mission to take them down spirals into a messy battle of influence, identity and high school politics.
The production team said, “Whether you grew up quoting the movie or are discovering the story for the first time, this production of ‘Mean Girls’ brings fresh perspective, sharp laughs and standout local talent to the stage. And yes, you can sit with us.”
“Mean Girls: High School Version” will be performed Sept. 12–21 at Greasepaint Theatre, 7020 E. 2nd St., Scottsdale. Tickets are $25. For information, visit www.greasepaint.org.
