In its April 18 newsletter, the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) announced that it is the first animal welfare organization in the country to provide telemedicine services for owned pets.
“Whether it is a weeks-long wait for the first available in-person appointment, a difficult-to-transport pet, or an owner with mobility issues, telemedicine can break down barriers by offering safe, effective and timely veterinary care, which is critical in our proactive efforts to expand access to care and keep pets in loving homes and out of shelters,” leadership said.
The launch and first year of telemedicine offerings are made possible by a generous donation from the Patricia L. Fontana Family, with telemedical examinations available at a reduced fee for a limited time (additional services may require a fee).
AHS’ medical team of veterinarians and veterinary technicians can answer questions about a pet’s health through a convenient video call. Both owners and the pet must be available for telemedicine appointments, which are only available to pets who are currently in Arizona. They are not able to address emergency situations. If a pet needs emergency assistance, visit your closest veterinarian or emergency or urgent care clinic.
Telemedicine hours for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed for lunch from 1-2 p.m.). Text 866.967.4648 (preferred) or call 602-997-7585, Ext. 4000.
