After the Phoenix Historic Preservation (HP) Commission voted in October 2024 to initiate the HP overlay re-zoning process on the Hansen Mortuary building, located at 8314 N. 7th St., the dates have been set for public hearings.
The HP Commission will hold a hearing March 17 at 4:30 p.m.; the North Mountain Village Planning Committee will hear the case April 9 at 6 p.m.; and the Phoenix Planning Commission hears the case May 1 at 6 p.m. Assuming that the case has a recommendation for approval, it will head to the Phoenix City Council for ratification June 4 at 2:30 p.m.
By gaining HP zoning overlay status, the property is not only recognized as worthy of preservation, but protected from demolition and other adverse alterations. Residents who would like to lend their voice in support of “historic” status are encouraged to attend an upcoming meeting or send a letter of support to the voting bodies.
