Residents of all ages are invited to explore the world by diving into a book as the Phoenix Public Library joins Maricopa County in the annual Summer Reading Game June 1 through Aug. 1.

Over the summer months, readers are encouraged to log 1,000 points by reading, attending virtual events, completing challenges, visiting their local library and entering secret codes on the program website. One minute of reading equals one point, and those who log 20 minutes of reading a day will be automatically entered into weekly prize drawings. Those who hit the 1,000-point mark by the end of the program will receive a free prize book.

For busy adults who may not be able to get to a library during operating hours, Phoenix Public Library recently activated 24/7 Holds Lockers at most branches. The lockers offer contact-free access to pick up library materials whenever their schedule allows. Cholla and Yucca libraries also offer extended full-service library hours from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. on Sunday.

To sign up, visit www.maricopacountyreads.org (and earn a free gently used book from Friends of the Phoenix Public Library) or stop by a local Phoenix branch and ask your librarian for assistance. To find a library location and summer reading events near you, click on the “Summer Reading” link at www.phoenixpubliclibrary.org.
