In June, senior centers across the city of Phoenix will offer dozens of opportunities for the area’s older residents to get out of the heat and enjoy engaging programs and activities with their peers.
Members at the Devonshire Senior Center, located at 2802 E. Devonshire Ave., can enjoy Art with Christy, June 3 and 17; disk golf and a Memory Café, June 5, a Juneteenth celebration June 18, and a fishing trip to Granada Park with members of the Sunnyslope Senior Center. Throughout the month, regular programming includes a walking club, indoor gardening and aquaponics, Tai Chi, sewing and knitting, and line dancing. Over at Sunnyslope Senior Center, located at 802 E. Vogel Ave., events and activities in June include Memory Café at 10 a.m. June 4, Line Dance with Ruth on Thursdays (except June 19, when the center is closed), Ballet Arizona presentations on the first three Mondays in June, a Father’s Day celebration June 13, In addition, three trips will be offered: lunch at Lin’s Grand Buffet, June 2; a Juneteenth celebration at Senior Opportunities West, June 10; and lunch at Christo’s, June 25. The city’s senior centers are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Membership gives residents access to all 15 Phoenix senior centers.
