Originally a Valley National Bank Branch, the modernist building at 44th Street and Camelback Road was designed by the architectural firm of Weaver and Drover and completed in 1968 (photo by Paul Sikorski courtesy of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office).

The City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office is working on its PreserveHistoricPHX 2025 plan. The first comprehensive plan for historic preservation in the city of Phoenix was adopted in 2015 and set priorities, goals and actions for municipal historic preservation efforts in Phoenix.

The purpose of the 2025 PreserveHistoricPHX update is to assess the achievements made after the original plan adoption, address new challenges and to discover new opportunities to advance historic preservation in Phoenix. A draft plan will be presented to Village Planning Committees for recommendation in June, then to the Historic Preservation and Planning commissions in July and August, with council action expected in September.

The draft plan is available through the link at www.phoenix.gov/pdd/historic-preservation. To provide comments on the draft plan, send an email to historic@phoenix.gov or call the HP office at 602-261-8699.
