Teachers and support staff from Madison Heights Elementary School spent a day volunteering at nonprofit Feed My Starving Children as part of the school’s Heights Helps program (submitted photo).

A non-traditional team building experience prepared Madison Heights Elementary School for the start of the 2017-2018 semester in early August. Despite the busyness of back to school, Madison Heights Principal Priscilla Gossett and her team spent the afternoon serving at Feed My Starving Children in Mesa. The local nonprofit tackles world hunger by connecting local volunteers to pack food for children across the globe in life-threatening circumstances.

The teacher team-building is part of a project called Heights Helps and involves teachers, students and Heights families. Their goal is to contribute 600 hours of service to the community during the 2017-2018 school year. Feed My Starving Children was selected for this event because it allowed teachers to work together, get to know each other better, and help improve the lives of children—Madison Heights’ primary focus.
