A new interior design firm aims to help people remain in their homes as they age.

Silver Harmony Living strives to create barrier-free homes that let older adults feel independent and empowered. Galen Hasenpflug and Robert Denning, both certified Aging-In-Place Specialists, started the company after their experiences with their own parents. The two have received special training to address age-related safety and accessibility issues in homes that come up as people’s physical abilities change. Their mission is to find creative solutions to meet older adults’ needs while not sacrificing aesthetics or clients’ personal style.

The company designs differently for mature adults in how it selects materials. For example, luxury vinyl flooring is a good choice for older adults as it is relatively smooth but not as hard and cold as tile. Hasenpflug and Denning complete a 225-point assessment inside and outside of a home before making recommendations on design choices. Their services include kitchen and bathroom design, space planning and project coordination and management, selection of furniture and accessories, outdoor space design and residential and commercial staging.
