The Exterior Rehabilitation Program from the city of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office provides funding for repair and restoration work on historic homes. Owners of properties located in city-designated historic districts or individually listed on the city’s historic property register are eligible to apply.
The program reimburses owners 50/50 for pre-approved work with grant funding between $5,000 and $10,000. In exchange for the grant, the property owner agrees to a 15-year conservation easement to protect the historic character of the property’s exteriors.
A successful project is one that retains and preserves as much of the original historic fabric as possible while maintaining the historic, character-defining architectural elements of the home. Eligible projects include items such as foundation repair, brick repointing, stucco repair, structural rehabilitation, removal of non-historic additions, historic window repair, and roofing repair/replacement.
In order to qualify for the grant, each applicant is required to meet with the grant manager to discuss the project and program requirements. Appointments will be available through Jan. 31. The next deadline for Exterior Rehabilitation Grant applications is Feb. 28, at noon.
