North Central resident Hailey Jensen, a recent graduate of Xavier College Preparatory, was the recipient of a $2,000 college scholarship awarded through the Scholarships for Military Children Program.

The program was initiated in 2000 to award scholarships to graduating high school seniors or college-enrolled students. It is open to qualified sons and daughters of members of the U.S. Armed Services including active duty, retirees, guard/reserves, as well as children of deceased military personnel. Applications are turned in through base commissaries.

Jensen, daughter of U.S. military member Karl Jensen, was awarded through Luke Air Force Base’s commissary. Manufacturers and organizations that do business with the commissary system fund the scholarships with money ordinarily used for various other contests and promotions. Jensen’s scholarship was funded through the generosity of Post Cereal.

Jensen, who played lacrosse and tennis while at Xavier, is attending the University of Virginia this fall.
