Plans are underway to redevelop a site at the northwest corner of 44th Street and Camelback Road to include a private NBA/WNBA training center, boutique hotel and high-end shopping, among other amenities.

RED Development plans to redevelop the $300 million mixed-use site that will also feature office buildings, a self-storage center and dining. The Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury have started building the 50,000 square-foot private practice center that will feature innovations in sports science aimed at elevating sustainable high performance. New medical and physical therapy offerings and coach and medical team offices will be in the facility.

The property will have new buildings including the ground-floor retail businesses and restaurants. A five-story boutique hotel that Sam Fox Hospitality Group will design, own and operate will have about 100 rooms, as well as a rooftop lounge and other offerings.

The rezoning plans RED submitted to the city of Phoenix earlier this year are expected to fix the property’s higher-than-average vacancy rates, as well as lower-than-average rents by adding a more attractive project for the community and tenants. Upgrades to the site including adding landscaping to entry plazas, patio spaces and retail buildings and other construction are likely to start in the summer of 2020.
