A new member will join the city of Phoenix’s Planning Commission on Dec. 5 but he is already a familiar face and involved community advocate in North Central Phoenix.

Joel McCabe replaces John Glenn, who is moving to Washington, D.C. McCabe was appointed in November. The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on issues that might be referred to the Council relating to or concerning a comprehensive plan of city building and improvement. Commissioners meet the first Thursdays of every month at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. The Commission recommends to the City Council occasionally amendments to the City Charter, ordinances offering for the purchase of sites for city buildings, opening, widening or other changes in streets and other public ways, among other projects.

McCabe had been on the Alhambra Village Planning Committee, a group nominated by and appointed by the mayor and City Council that live or work within village boundaries.
