Local girls have more ways and incentives to boost their STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills and explore rock climbing, backpacking, skiing and other outdoor adventures in North Central Phoenix and around the state.

Girl Scouts-Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC), which is actively recruiting new troop leaders and forming new troops, has announced it will launch 42 new badges for girls in grades K-12. new categories include Cybersecurity, Space Science and Think Like a Citizen Scientist.

There are 101 different Girl Scout troops and 1,196 girls who are members in North Central Phoenix. Many Girl Scout events are being held in the area this month, including a Daisy Chemistry Patch Workshop from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Arizona Science Center at 600 E. Washington St. Girls will explore chemistry as they discover states of matter while making chemical concoctions. In order to participate, an adult must register with each girl. The cost is $5-$18.
