If you or a loved one has had a stroke or is believed to be at risk of experiencing one, the award-winning Abrazo hospitals offer a high level of care for this health issue.

Four Abrazo hospitals, including Abrazo Central Campus at 2000 W. Bethany Home Road, have been honored with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines Quality Achievement and Target: Stroke awards. These awards highlight Abrazo’s investment in technology and talented medical professionals to treat stroke and neurological diseases around the Valley.

Abrazo Central Campus obtained the Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus/Target Stroke Elite /Target Stroke Advanced Therapy Award. Neurosciences are a big focus at the Abrazo Central Campus, where Dr. Emun Abdu is medical director of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery and Dr. Samuel Kim is medical director of Neurosurgery. Abdu and Kim have high levels of neurosurgery experience and expand the hospital’s capabilities for treating patients who need that type of help. Abrazo Central also is reportedly the first hospital in the state to receive Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center certification. That means it meets stringent standards for performing mechanical endovascular thrombectomy, a specialized surgical procedure used to remove a blood clot from the brain during an ischemic stroke, according to Abrazo Central Campus.

Strokes can cause death, lasting brain damage and long-term disability, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A stroke takes place when blood supply to part of the brain is blocked or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts.
