From Oct. 17 to Oct. 19, the Save Our Mountains Foundation (SOMF) will host a community event to help raise funds in support of its mission to protect and preserve the Phoenix Mountains Preserve.
Held at North Mountain Visitor Center, 12950 N. 7th St., the Festival in the Mountains will feature live music, local hikes, a silent action and drawings, activities for kids, dog costume event, demos, displays, exhibits and more. In addition, the Market in the Mountains will feature local artists, authors and community vendors.
An opening ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, followed by an open mike jam session, hike and stargazing. Saturday activities will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the festival will wrap up on Sunday, beginning with an 8 a.m. hike and finishing at 4 p.m., after a silent auction and drawing winners are announced.
SOMF is a volunteer nonprofit that operates the North Mountain Visitor Center, where guests can get an up-close, personal tour of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve and the plants and animals that make up the area surrounding the center. Visit www.northmountainvisitorcenter.org to learn more.
