A firm believer in the adage “adopt, don’t shop,” North Central News publisher Tara Blanc has a houseful of rehomed pets, including the beautiful Bonnie, who was rescued in March 2024 from Maricopa County Animal Control hours before the pup was scheduled to be euthanized. Blanc and her husband, Paul, took one look at the bright, happy face and wagging tail and fell in love on the spot.

“Bonnie ran over to my husband, plopped her behind down, and smiled up at him,” Blanc said. “There was never any question about her going home with us.”

Bonnie, who was on the euthanasia list because of an undiagnosed neck issue, turned out to have valley fever, which is highly treatable. Fourteen months later, Bonnie is a happy, healthy girl who loves to ride in the car and bark at the front window with her “brother” rescue, Bailey, and chase the Blancs’ two rescue cats around the house.

“We can’t imagine life without her, “ Blanc said. “She is so affectionate and loving, and incredibly sweet-tempered. I’m not sure who rescued who at this point!”
