Hello, North Central neighbors!

This month, we take a look at the ongoing debate over whether it is time to get rid of the rush hour reverse lanes on 7th Avenue and 7th Street. A citizen petition to remove them was presented to Phoenix City Council, but the outcome was perhaps not what they were looking for. You can find more background on this issue online in my December 2023 cover story (www.northcentralnews.net), and we would love to hear your thoughts on the issue – what is your experience with the reverse lanes and is it time to remove them? Let us know.

In this month’s cover story by Trudy Thompson Shumaker, we are shining the spotlight on yet another longtime North Central business: Central Music. In Food for Thought, Marjorie Rice sits down with Audrey Corley and Andrew Renteria, who collaborated to develop Dahlia Tapas Tequila and Wine. And with summer on the horizon, our top story in Community explores the city’s efforts to meet the challenges of excessive heat through the creation of artistic shade structures.

Over in Community Pets, you can read about our Arizona Humane Society Pet of the Month, the lovely Temo, and meet our featured North Central pet, Bonnie. You will also find other community, business and school news, as well as our round-up of things to do in the Valley this month in Arts & Entertainment.

We hope that you enjoy our June issue, and until next month, all my best,
