This month, we are once again focusing on how community collaboration can bring positive changes to our North Central neighborhoods – and beyond.

On the cover, we explore how the Phoenix Mountains Preservation Council is working with stakeholders across the Valley towards the continued preservation and improvement of our Phoenix preserve lands. The group considers civic stewardship a part of community responsibility.

We also spoke with Kevin and Lauren Locker, a couple that believes in volunteerism and who have lent their skills and time to fourth, fifth and sixth graders at Desert View Elementary to create a FIRST LEGO League team. In its rookie year, this enthusiastic robotics team, the Wayfinders, forged a path to a fourth-place win at the state competition.

In this month’s Café Chat, Marjorie Rice explores the sensory symphony that is Thai E-San, a generational restaurant that brings the flavors of northeast Thailand to Phoenix diners. For our top story in Business, Trudy Thopson Shumaker sat down with the new owners of the Root Salon, where the goal is to provide a comfortable, welcoming environment for clients and a space where talented stylists can mentor those who are newer to the trade.

As always, you will find news from our North Central neighbors, businesses and schools, along with places to eat and drink, our pet of the month and a wide variety of things to do in Phoenix.

Finally, we encourage you to reach out if there is a North Central story that you feel needs told. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy our March issue. Until next month, all my best,
