The 2013 Taste of Desert Mission fundraising event, held Nov. 6 at the Desert Mission Food Bank, 9229 N. 4th St., invited donors, volunteers and community members to eat, drink and give thanks while learning about the life-changing programs of Desert Mission.

For the third year in a row, local celebrity Chef Eddie Matney catered the food and wine event, while also raising funds for the organization by auctioning off some unique “foodie” opportunities, including taking over his Scottsdale restaurant, Eddie’s House, for an evening of private cooking for 30 people. His efforts and additional donations from attendees, made that evening toward the Working Poor Tax Credit, raised a total of $89,863.

All proceeds will go to benefit Desert Mission’s various holiday programs, including its annual Turkey Distribution, which will distribute more than 2,500 turkeys and holiday meals to neighbors in need.
