The City of Phoenix, along with Metrocenter Mall has created a special G.A.I.N. 2013 kick-off event set for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 to offer neighborhood groups, block watches and members of the public opportunities to learn about programs and resources available to them.

The event will take place by the Sears court area at Metrocenter Mall, 28th and Peoria avenues. G.A.I.N. stands for “Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods.”

Attending the event will be city of Phoenix officials from Neighborhood Services, Parks and Recreation, Streets and Transportation, and other departments; Community Action Officers (CAOs) from the Police Department, members of the police’s Special Assignment Unit (SAU); Phoenix Fire Department officials; local businesses and organizations; and more.

There will be a limited number of Crime Prevention totes handed out to neighborhoods that have registered for a G.A.I.N. event (deadline is Oct. 2) as well as raffle prizes for their event and G.A.I.N. T-shirts. At the kick-off event there will be fingerprinting for kids and a visit by McGruff the Crime Dog.
