See what it takes to direct an opera as Joshua Borths, director of “Rusalka,” will show and discuss how he creates his magic, 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Arizona Opera, 1636 N. Central Ave.

Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s original story, when the water nymph Rusalka wants to be a part of our world, she sacrifices everything for the chance at true love.

Enjoy a glass of wine and a light snack, and see how Borths brings the opera to life. After the presentation, stay to watch a rehearsal for “Rusalka,” which will be on stage at Phoenix Symphony Hall Nov. 11-13 (www.azopera.org).

Cost is $25 per person. RSVP to Kim Smith of Valley Friends of Arizona Opera, 480-510-3517 or kimpainter77@gmail.com.
