The Phoenix Public Library doesn’t just offer programming for toddlers and youth. Programs geared toward adults take place this month at some of the North Central-area branches.

Rachel Bess presents “Planting a Garden in the Valley,” 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 8, in the Century Library Meeting Room, 1750 E. Highland Ave. Come learn about what you can plant in your garden now, and what you can plant in fall. Attendees also will make a pot from newspaper and plant a seed that you can take home for your garden. Pre-registration required.

Get some “Laptop Computer Lab and Device Advice,” 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 9, in the Saguaro Library Meeting Room, 2808 N. 46th St. Have computer questions? Curious about the Internet? Want to know how to use your handheld device to access library e-materials? Laptops will be provided for this lab in the meeting room; however, you will need to bring your own fully charged handheld device for device assistance. Pre-registration suggested.

Enjoy an art history presentation on Frida Khalo, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. Friday, July 14, in the Yucca Library Meeting Room, 5649 N. 15th Ave. Every second Friday of the month, the library hosts a free discussion group for adults 50 and older. The group discussion is hosted by a librarian, subject specialist or guest speaker.

Suzette Smith of Garden Goddess will discuss “Fermented Foods” 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Acacia Library, 750 E. Townley Ave. Smith will demonstrate her cooking methods for fermenting food and teach you the art of fermenting vegetables. She will tell you why you should be eating fermented foods and how this can revolutionize your health. Space is limited, so register early.
