At a celebration of National Dog Day, the Phoenix Fire Department announced the newest addition to its Arizona Search Dog team: Delta, a 14-month-old yellow Labrador retriever. She will serve alongside her handler, Phoenix Firefighter Dan Volcko as a “Live Find Urban Search & Rescue” member of the Phoenix Fire Department.

The department now has 12 Arizona search dogs. The dog’s primary goal is to provide canine search capabilities for AZ-TF1 (Arizona Task Force 1) and to assist local and jurisdictions at a state and local level. These dogs have been deployed to a numerous of historic events including Hurricane Katrina and the World Trade Center collapse.

At the event, the department also announced a new community partnership between Arizona Search Dogs and Nulo Pet Food. That includes a 12-month partnership between organizations, $5,000 dollar donation directly to the organization to help aid in expenses for Arizona Search Dogs, and a year’s worth of food for the 12 canine members of the Arizona Search Dogs.
