With approximately 80 percent of the more than 22,000 pets that come through its doors, Wanda is just one of thousands of pets that undergo treatment in the Arizona Humane Society’s (AHS) trauma hospital while on the road to recovery. The adorable three-year-old Maltese mix was rescued after being hit by a car and in need of a Foster Hero while she continues to heal.
While AHS staff are not sure what her story was prior to receiving care at the shelter, it was clear she had been trying her best to survive on her own for quite a while as she was extremely dirty and matted. After X-rays, it was also found that little Wanda is suffering from a broken leg due to her traumatic event.
Thankfully, AHS veterinarians anticipate this sweet girl will be able to heal with splinting and no surgery necessary due to the nature of the injury. With an anticipated one to two months of healing needed, Wanda is hoping for a temporary foster home where she can rest and get the care she needs prior to finding her forever home.
Being an AHS Foster Hero is a lifesaving venture with cases that fit every family and lifestyle. Bringing in a foster pet(s) allows AHS to continue caring for even more of the community’s sick, injured and abused pets by opening up much-needed kennel space.
