Fred Rouse

Veterans and the public are invited to an informal talk to be presented by Fred Rouse, a retired construction engineer, who will present “Diesel Submariner Memories,” Friday, Feb. 21, from 9-10 a.m. at Cross Roads United Methodist Church, 7901 N. Central Ave.

Rouse started his Navy service in 1963 when he and his cousin joined a Naval Reserve Submarine Unit at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, CA to attend a Submarine School during the summer. In 1965, Rouse, a Petty Officer Third Class Quartermaster, reported aboard the USS SEGUNDO SS (Ship Submersible) 398 at Point Loma Submarine Base, San Diego. He served throughout Southeast Asia and Western Pacific before being released from active duty in 1967 when he was promoted to Petty Officer Second Class. He completed his Navy service in 1969.
