The Phoenix Symphony is calling on young composers to showcase their creativity in its Student Composition Project. Open to students in first grade to 12th, this unique opportunity allows young Arizona musicians to compose an original orchestral piece, with a chance to have their work performed by the Symphony next season. Submissions are due by June 1.

Selected students will collaborate with Phoenix Symphony associate conductor Alex Amsel and/or a symphony musician over the summer to refine their compositions into performance-ready masterpieces. If chosen for the 2025-26 season, the young composer will be recognized on stage and in educational materials.

Compositions should be 2-6 minutes long, written for four players up to a mid-size orchestra. Applicants also must submit a 200- to 500-word essay about their piece and a short biography (up to 300 words).

Students will compete in two age divisions: Grades 1-8 and Grades 9-12. For details and to apply, visit www.phoenixsymphony.org/education-community/student-composition-project.
